Weddings: The best version of yourself

Morning my pretties I hope you are all very well and ready to discuss weddings! FOUR MONTHS TO GO! Now the venue is sorted, the food already in the oven and even the flowers booked it feels like I can start to relax. NOT. There are still one million things to think about including of course the most important part of the day: my appearance! With both my dress and shoes ordered, the time has come for me to give my face and body some serious thought and thankfully there are some fantastic brands out there to help me! My search engine results range from ‘DIY wedding makeup’ to ‘hydrating finishing spray’ and of course the inevitable ‘best waterproof mascaras 2015’… and despite the endless results I’m starting to discover some seriously cool products. In fact some of them have already made it into my day-to-day. But if there’s one thing I’ve learnt during the whole wedding process, it’s that even when you think you’ve thought of everything… you haven’t. And that’s where I’m so glad JOHNSON & JOHNSON offered me a trial of their 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ Contact Lenses. Now you see I’ve been so focused on figuring out how I’m going to make sure my eyeliner doesn’t smudge that I never thought of the fact it might be quite nice to actually SEE the person I’m marrying rather than a blur of a smiling suit. I joke… My eyes don’t actually have a very strong prescription so I was going naked-eyed for the day. But that was until I discovered these particular lenses. The first ones I’ve ever tried in fact. And I’m hooked! Wedding days are all about looking the best version of you, right? So I’m not about to go and plonk bright turquoise lenses on my eyes considering they’re naturally more of a grey-blue… I want to recognise myself in the pictures. As well as correcting your sight, the way 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ Contact Lenses work is by enhancing your natural eye colour. So clever! They have two versions – shimmer and sparkle – and I tried the sparkle version and just couldn’t believe the difference! Not only could I see perfectly without glasses (hey I’m allowed to get excited about this, remember I was a contact lense virgin until now), but my eyes look so perfectly defined… Like someone had slightly tweaked the filter contrast so that the blue is more blue and the white more white… But in a most natural way. With left – Without right “The lens is designed provide a more defined limbal ring (edge around the coloured part of the eye) creating a stronger contrast to the white part of your eye – which will make you look more fresh/awake, while at the same time giving the illusion that your eyes (iris – coloured part of the eye) are bigger. The lens is designed with an iris-inspired pattern which will almost blend with you natural eye, not masking it like other contact lenses, to enhance and bring out your natural beauty. Keeping in mind that every iris (coloured part of your eye) is unique (like a finger print) so everyone will have a different experience and look.” I’m stunned by how natural the difference looks, what do you think? With both eyes Whilst the sparkle was a perfect fit for me, giving my eyes extra depth and definition, I’d suggest trying the shimmer too as both have different effects on different eyes. Seeing fellow bloggers try the lenses on I realised just how different the results could be – some even liked the idea of using one as a day version and the other for going out. I’m definitely going to be wearing these to enhance my loving gaze on my wedding day – I’ve even checked with the team that they’ll be OK if I cry and the answer is YES, absolutely fine. Cue endless tears of joy. Love from London, Aimee in collaboration with NEW 1-DAY JOHNSON & JOHNSON ACUVUE® DEFINE™ to enhance the natural beauty of your eyes. Inspired by the beauty of the natural eye, the lens combines a dark ring around the coloured portion of your eye with a luminous-effect pattern, resulting in a brighter, more memorable you. Choose from one of two designs to suit your eye colour. NATURAL SHIMMER™ for more depth and intensity or NATURAL SPARKLE™ to add a luminous brightening effect. New year’s resolutions: Save Money!

Wellllll… What a month of spending! Presents, Xmas parties, drinks galore and new (usually sequin-embellished) clothes to wear to each and every outing… Needless to say there is no way I have managed to put as much aside as I was hoping to this month. Again. But next year, readers, we have a wedding to plan! And I need to make sure I’m saving enough money for the big day as well as for my life as a wife! I mean come on, that designer wedding dress is not just going to land on my doorstep… Hard work is how the modern Cinderella finds her way to the ball! And buying a house flat in London seems like the most challenging investment in the World when you’re on the same side of it as I am. Savings accounts and tax efficient ISA‘s are just so important at our age, and there are a few app’s I’m going to be using throughout 2015 to make sure I reach my financial goals. Official bank apps I have the HSBC one and it’s pretty good for real time spending because it shows me exactly how much money is on my account but also how much is available if I have spent money that has not yet been taken. Because there comes a time when you have the face the fact that whatever the state of your account, you’re better off in the know! I’m going to quit hiding my head in the sand in 2015 and will be checking my account on a daily basis on my phone to see where my spending’s at. This should only take a few minutes on the bus each morning and should mean I’m in the right state of mind to look after my dosh. Money management apps I have finally come to realise that saving means planning. Gosh am I getting old and wise. I guess managing your own finances is a little bit like having a business: you have to forecast. And there are many apps out there to help us shopaholics see how much we can spend on handbags and how much we need to put aside to reach our goals. I also find that apps such as MoneyWiz (which I’ve just downloaded and like so far) really help you appreciate just how much money you spend on different areas of your life. For example, looking at the graphs, I have had shocking news with regards to the amount of money I spend on taxis… You know what they say: if you can’t walk in heels, grab a cab! But maybe I should revert to trainers more often 😉 Anyway, money management apps will definitely be my new besties in the year to come, making sure I know exactly where my precious pennies ‘disappear’ to! Bring on the bargains! There are so many apps out there designed to help you save/spend money. I say ‘save/spend’ because of course they also encourage you to spend more than you initially had intended to if they prompt you to splash out on a spontaneous holiday… However when used within reason they really can help you save a few dols and I am definitely going to be replacing Net-A-Porter with the Outnet app as well as making virtual space in my life for the likes of Vente Privee, Secret Escapes and Very Chic! Talking about low-cost, the EasyJet app is pretty handy for a last minute getaways too. Well, if you’re going to spend money, you might as well spend less! So, here’s to a new year of sensible Aimee! Hey – I can hear you doubting me in the back row.. 😉 xx

Cosy nights in… style!

*INSERT RANT ABOUT SUDDEN DROP IN TEMPERATURE* The time has come for cups of warm milk, hot water bottles and wooly socks! Baby it’s cold outside, and there’s nothing like snuggling up in the Winter for a cosy night at home. Lately I’ve been trying to make sure comfy doesn’t rhyme with frumpy – an easy Winter trap. Beautiful knits, soft threads and loose yet fashionable cuts are the perfect choice when you want to look like a superstar when watching Netflix. Purchasing comfortable yet chic clothing is also a great investment when traveling – yes, I’m thinking of the hours I’ll be spending on the train or in the car over Xmas… You can snuggle up and still look the part when you arrive at your destination! Enough said – bring on the cuddly clothing… All from Avenue 32, a one-stop-shop for quality clothing designed by up-and-coming designers. Our romantic story involves a surprise weekend, a taxi going in the ‘wrong’ direction, a Beatles song, a white shirt, a leather jacket, a trip back to the first I love you, a proposal that made me overflow with tears of joy, a YES, a beautiful Chaumet white gold and diamond ring, more tears of joy down the phone to my family, another taxi to another unknown destination, an afternoon at a luxurious spa staring at the dazzling thing on my finger, bubbles, bubbles and more bubbles, rose petals, a night in the Rennaissance Hotel at St Pancras and the two happiest people on Earth. So, looks like we have a wedding to plan! And by us, I mean Monsieur Marcel, myself, and YOU! We’ve been engaged for a couple of months now and as the idea starts to sink in (it takes SO much longer than you might expect!) we’re starting to plan our wedding for end of Summer 2015. We’ll be getting married in France as I felt it was important for us to both go ‘home’ for what will be one of the most memorable days of our lives. Beautiful Ted Baker dress from John Lewis here. Autumn fun

Autumn fashion really is the best. Cosy layers and soft snuggly materials… This year more than ever I’ve been having fun with my mid season outfits, adding pops of colour and playful prints. I used to always switch to a more boring version or myself in Autumn Winter. “Oh, it’s raining, I’ll wear black.” or “Well the sky’s grey, I may as well walk around looking like I’m a part of it”. But lately I’ve enjoyed reds, greens and even bright blue… I realised it was a good idea to keep up the colourful wear when a guy in Victoria station stopped me one morning on the way to work to kindly say “It’s so nice to see someone wearing a bit of colour, thank you for brightening up my morning!”. Adding bright pink to the mix with my blushing cheeks I looked around and indeed the whole station was black. Talking of colour, I have FINALLY joined the rest of the women in this material world: I HAVE A TARTAN SKIRT. I’ve been drooling over tartan prints for the past couple of years but didn’t think the trend would last… Shame on me! It’s well and truly here to stay! I enjoyed pairing it with sequins here for a playful weekend outfit. Details of my outfit: Hat: TU Sequin top: TopShop Tartan Skirt: TU available here Tights: Boots (3 for 2) Shiny shoes: TU Coat: TU available here To top it off – literally – I wore this cute little deer wooly hat. I just love it! I seem to be a sucker for animals in Winter… I have sheep slippers that I swap for reindeer slippers come Xmas and even thought they’re worn out and – admittedly – rather gross, I just can’t seem to get rid of them! Deer are so trendy these days, but I love that this particular cutie isn’t all about the silhouette – it’s just a sweet little face with ears! Too much love. And fun. And warmth. How about you, do you have fun with colour and prints in Autumn Winter or does the weather get you down? Love from London, xx Aimee Compensation was provided by Sainsbury’s via Mode Media. Outfit du jour: Last lace

Something about the raindrops on my window tell me we may have had our last chance to wear lace this Summer… And oh what a lacey season it has been. This beautiful dress was a gift from a French brand I adore – Sud Express. If you have never heard of them, check out their website – they’re specialised in a casual-chic style only the French get right. This dress is definitely going in the “keep for next year” pile and given its classic cut and quality it’s bound to become a Summer staple in the CNC wardrobe. I have loved pairing this with sandals and a tote for a casual boho look and then switching to night attire by simply adding heels and a clutch. Don’t you just love an all-rounder? Unfortunately it looks like I may have worn my lace for the last time this year – but this can only mean it’s time for me to introduce you to my new umbrella. YES, a new umbrella can be exciting. Wait until you see it. I’ll be showing you a whole range of new goodies tomorrow on CNC so stay tuned! Love from London, Aimee

Fast Food #2: Vegan yogurt recipe

Hello girls ! I hope you’re well and ready for another round of Healthy Fast Food ! I’m home alone at the moment as my other half is traveling… and it seems the veggie / vegan inside of me is ready to jump out and explore new flavours! It’s whilst trying (and failing) to make a vegan pancake mix that I realised this was the most delicious vegan yogurt I have ever tried. It’s rich, creamy, sweet and totally dairy free, of course. They say getting lost helps you find yourself! The recipe below makes one big pot to keep in the fridge for a few days. It makes the perfect breakfast yogurt as the oats will keep hunger locked up whilst the fruit gives you your morning portion of goodness. You will need: – 1 cup oats – 2/3 cup almond powder – 1-2 cups water (depending on the consistency you like, start with one and mix more in as needed) – 2 bananas – 2 tbs honey / maple sirop – 1/2 cup raspberries (or any other juicy fruit of your choice) Blitz it all up in a blender and enjoy! I hope you get to try it – let me know what you think! Love from London, Aimee

Shopped in London:Barry M

Hey girls! So because I know a whole load of you are reading me from abroad, I figured it might make sense to share some of my latest London finds. You might be able to find these where you live too, especially if you’re in the UK, but if not then it will be the perfect shopping list of British buys for next time you come to visit. I decided to kick off with one of my latest obsessions, my Barry M nail polishes. I used to be obsessed with shellac / semi permanent nail polish. I’d spend lots of money going to get my nails done regularly and then in the end I started doing them at home with my own machine. But I got bored – as you do – and particularly fed up with the time it took to remove the gel and the horrible effect it had on my nails. They were literally stripped because of the repetitive abuse. So I looked around for another solution since after weeks on end of pretty nails I just couldn’t go back to the normal stuff. I’m way too active and clumsy, I end up with chipped nails after a few hours never mind days. On my hunt I came across a few brands who have started selling “gel effect” polish. So basically it’s normal nail varnish but it looks and lasts like gel. Hmm. Intriguing. So I bought a few different makes, determined to find the One. And Barry M was BY FAR the best. Admittedly I was a little critical when I purchased my first Barry M Gelly as the brand looked a bit cheap and tacky to me. Maybe it’s the abundance of bright colours or simply the fact I hadn’t heard of the brand which polishes cost approx £4 each. Well I should never have been such a snob ! These nail gels are the best thing I have bought in the beauty department in months. Except for maybe the revolutionary Saint Tropez, but I’ll come back to that another day. Not only does the Barry M Gelly collection have a huuuuuge range of colours on offer but the solution is runny enough to paint on yet thick enough for a nice opaque colour. Just the way I like it. One coat is enough though I do paint on two for that extra hold. And yes ladies, the gel holds for 10 days. No kidding. I won’t say it looks 100% the same at the end than at the beginning but it looks pretty damn good, is not chipped and can be removed easily. What more to ask for. A matte collection? That’s fine, they have one too. Though I’m yet to try it as I tend to associate matte nails with Winter. I must warn you though, don’t be fooled into thinking Barry M is the god of all make-up brands, the perfect balance between product and price. Unfortunately, I tried their eye shadows and was not impressed. The £7 palette will not be used since I find the powder too dry and the colours too light. It was almost frustrating to dip your finger into and just wouldn’t rub onto my finger properly. But never mind, you never know if you don’t try…! And at least now I have a new favourite nail polish brand. Willing to try it?! Let me know how it goes! Love from London, Aimee

Outfit du Jour: Total Leo

After going all white I’m going all leo with this outfit du jour again shot in Shoreditch. I couldn’t wait to take pics of this jumpsuit since I fell in love with it the minute it caught my eye. I saw it, tried it and bought it in under 15 minutes. But then it took me a couple of weeks to actually wear it… Wearing a leopard jumpsuit is not the easiest thing to pull off which is why I thank London for its lack of judgement. I probably wouldn’t wear this outfit in Paris since over there eyes linger a little too long for my comfort. Up and down they go, reminding you of how confident you have to be in what you chose to wear. Maybe that’s why the Parisians swear by basics? A chic yet safe choice? Either way, I find London liberating in the sense that if I want to wear leopard print from head to toe and not get stared at I can simply go ahead and pull on this outfit. Well, in Shoreditch that is. Not so sure what the crowds in Chelsea would have to say! The other place I’ll be wearing this outfit is on holiday when I fly off into the sun in a couple of weeks. With a pair of oversized sunnies it’s the perfect incognito-airport look. So comfy and yet still stylish. Love it. Jumpsuit – Zara Sandals – André, 2013 Bodysuit – American Apparel Would/Could you pull off a total leo look where you live? Do you find you adapt your wardrobe to the places you go?
